WE KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS

21 July I will have my first trail day at Swatch group. Before I start working there I'd like to know a bit more about watches, since honestly I didn't know anything about watches other than what they look like and that they are used to indicate time.
During my second job interview I visited the shop in shop of the Swatch group, and was a little puzzled how anyone could spend over 200 euro's for a watch. But while getting to understand watches I found out that watches are much more than just time indicators.
No matter where we go nowadays, it's never hard to find out what time it is. Our phones, that most of us carry around 24/7, display the time for us, very accurately. Furthermore, considering that the generally cheaper quartz watches show time more accurately than the often more expensive automatic and mechanical watches, I think being able to know what time it is isn't even the main motivation of buying a watch.
Nowadays buying a automatic or mechanical watch is probably more often based on peoples love for mechanics, watches delicacy and complexity and decorational function, especially for men since they do not have many other accessories as an option. That a watch's main purpose is to show the time is just a minor detail.
Looking through a watch magazine I found a watch for which even I would be willing to spend around 200 euro, the Bovet Braveheart, shown in the picture below. I wasn't able to find its price, but since I did find a price of another watch of Bovet's collection, I realised I'd never be the proud owner of a watch like that. Apparently 10.000 euro for a watch isn't as high as it gets.
